Urgent Need: Industrial Design for Sustainability

So finally the suspension of or new old car is fixed and the knocking sounds from the bottom are a thing of the past. But we produced so much unnecessary trash.

What I find outrageous is that for a few broken rubber parts you have to replace the whole suspension arm assembly because the individual parts are not available / repairable. That is by design. So we  were just trashing two very fine, huge aluminium parts. They would have lasted much longer than the whole car will. What a waste of resources. Not talking about money here, although that is also an issue, but energy, GHG emissions in manufacturing, resources needed for moving and storage of huge spare parts instead of small ones, etc.

We urgently need a paradigm shift in industrial design towards sustainability.

Back to the car. Now we have a car fit for another 10 years. Spent the same amount that the car cost on the repairs. Will be difficult to sell it and recover the money since people go more for looks and prestige than than for technical fitness. New:

1.) Basically the whole front suspension plus one of the the motor mounts. 2.) two wheel bearings. 3.) all four brakes 4.) shock absorbers 5.) headlights 6.) the whole AV (incompetent mechanic replaced one part after the other on a trial and error basis) 7.) front tires, 8.) windows switches, 8.) AC control buttons and 9.) a Pioneer stereo with CarPlay, and 10.) today, a new battery since the old one had a total breakdown.

Wherever possible done by a German Engineer.
